Excellent Indy Pop Rock song that is an incredibly catchy retro pop collage with tight harmonies, fantastic trumpet solo and a great Merseybeat sound and feel. Written and recorded by British group Howl Griff and mastered by the legendary Denis Blackman Crash And Burn features a very authentic array array of musical instruments including Gretsch electric guitars, Martin acoustic guitar, Fender bass guitar, Hammond Organ and Ludwig Drums not to mention the tambourine, backing vocals, hand claps and a trumpet. The tempo is brisk and the running length is three minutes and fourteen seconds.
Shades of The Beatles' early recordings on this piece of music and also to The Coral and this is mainly due to the great backbeat, guitar style and of course the great instruments employed. Neat and tidy, the verses with the tremoloed guitar strokes and the authoritative and cynical vocal lead to an explosive chorus which leaps to the major key with very Beatlesque backing vocals. The songs takes on a pseudo Spaghetti Western theme with the excellent introduction of the trumpet which nicely compliments the Spanish/Mexican flavour of the verse chords.
An extended verse/chorus picks up intensity with hand claps helping the swing develop and the majestic trumpet comes to the fore with a crazily good solo that takes the Crash and Burn theme to its logical crash of an ending. Similar to Bod Dylan's Everything Is Broken in its cynical honesty Crash And Burn though possessing retro qualities is very much a contemporary production due to is clever blending of genres and music styles and has a punchy and well produced sound. Suitable for all kinds of media productions, especially Film production, dramas, documentaries, web development and pod casts.
