A dark, enchanting and enigmatic pop instrumental full of wonderful and mysterious sounds. Written and recorded by British group Howl Griff and mastered by the legendary Denis Blackman Dark Energy features a rich array of musical instruments including electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, orchestral strings, rock drums, reversed cymbals, glockenspiel and strange high pitched effects. The tempo is fairly slow and the running length is four minutes.
The instrumental begins with a haunting arpeggio played on the acoustic guitar with the glockenspiel picking out a spooky melody, strange high pitched sounds can be heard in the distance. A very retro sounding Gretsch plays a twanging melody that is memorable, distinctive and perhaps a reference to The Divine Comedie's A Short Album About Love. The strings lift the song higher merging with the twanging guitar and creating a lush audio bed. Perhaps some of "Twin Peaks" weirdness to this excellent retro pop rock instrumental.
Full of excellent sounds, rich imagery and melodies Dark Energy is a class act that the film maker will find very interesting and usable, particularly those searching for classic retro sounds of the sixities. Suitable for all kinds of media productions, especially film production, dramas, documentaries, web development and pod casts.
