Devotion is a jangly and upbeat Indy Rock song with a medium tempo and a running length of three minutes. Written and recorded by British group Howl Griff and mastered by the legendary Denis Blackman Devotion features that umistakable sound of an electric 12 string Rickenbacker, other musical instruments include electric acoustic guitar, bass guitar, Ludwig acoustic drums, three part harmonies and tambourine.
Opening with a late sixies style strumming pattern from the Rickenbacker the acoustic guitar joins in with drums and bass to set up the lead vocal and a nice two chord pattern in a major key. Lovely Roger Mcguinn type Rickenbacker counter melodies weave through the verse. Next up, the Chorus lifts everything with gorgeous retro style harmonies driving home the great lead vocal melody much like The Hollies and The Super Furry Animals. Excellent guitars evoke much of the late sixties vibe especially into the guitar solo where the exquisite Rickenbacker 12 twelve string takes the honours.
The final verse is augmented with excellent three part harmonies to create a quite lushcious backdrop for the lead vocal and the last chorus delivers the highs once more with intensity and perfection from the whole band with the vocal arrangement really scoring highly.
