| With origins in the late 1980s Drum and Bass (also known as D&B and drum 'n' bass) is synonymous with fast beats (between 160-180 beats per minute) and thumping bass. Almost totally electronic D&B, often cited as the lovechild of the UKs rave movement, became fully established by the mid 1990s.
High production values, samples (it is not uncommon for D&B to feature elements of dancehall, rock, techno, house, funk, hip hop, jazz, raga, reggae, trance, electro or even heavy metal and Leadbelly, Charlie Patton, Miles Davis, Robert Johnson, BB King and Muddy Waters have all been cited as inspiration by producers) D&B continues to have an influence on other musical genres. And with the likes of Goldie, LTJ Bukem, Photek, Roni Size, Squarepusher, Fabio & Grooverider and Red Snapper key associated artists D&B looks set to thump into future.
