The original Tango is called the Argentine Tango is a social dance and a genre of music originating in Argentine amongst the European immigrant populations and started out as street music. It then also became popular Uruguay and then and to the rest of the world. Many years of evolution led to what is regarded as a ‘Golden Age’ in Tango music beginning around 1930 and drawing to a close at the end of the Second World War. Ballroom Tango is a later derivation of the Argentine Tango.
Tango is essentially walking with a partner and the music. Musicality (i.e. dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed of a tango) is an extremely important element of dancing tango. A good dancer is one who lets you visualise the music. Generally dancers keep their feet close to the floor as they walk with the ankles and knees brushing as one leg passes the other.
