In 1899 The ragtime piece "Maple Leaf Rag", composed by Scott Joplin and published in 1899, heavily influenced other ragtime composers with its melodies, harmonic progressions and metric patterns. Several other major hits followed for Scott Joplin including The Entertainer which became famous again in the 1970s Ragtime revival.
