Offenbach in 21st Century Can Can is a contemporary adaptation of Jacques Offenbach's galloping cancan from "Orpheus In The Underworld". More precisely, the "cancan Infernal" is from Galop from Act II, Scene 2. The cancan is a French dance in 2/4 originating from the early nineteenth century galop dance. It is a very energetic and suggestive dance and was considered shocking in certain social circles in the nineteenth century.
