It is not known who wrote this this Passamezzo but it is thought that it was composed around the year 1600. A Passamezzo was a popular Italian Renaissance dance similar to the Pavane but faster and in duple metre. A typical chord progression might be in A minor: Am|G|Am|E|| C|G|Am-E|Am||.
Perhaps the most obvious example of this type of progression would be Greensleeves. This type of progression was very popular in the Renaissance period and has continued to flourish in Modern music, the Turtles' "Happy Together" being a good example.
