| As a link between the Middle Ages and the Modern Era the Renaissance (an amalgamation of the French Renaissance, meaning ‘rebirth’, the Italian Rinascimento, from re- ‘again’ and nascere ‘be born’) is widely acknowledged as a cultural movement covering the period from the 14th - 17th centuries with Italian origins.
With one eye on cultural development and the other on classical origins a transformation and advancement in music was to occur with composers like Claudio Monteverdi, William Byrd, Orlando de Lassus, Giovanni Gabrieli, Thomas Tallis, Pierre de La Rue charting the period. Mostly polyphonic Renaissance music saw emphasis being placed on the vocal with music written to enhance the meaning and emotion of text (much music was almost entirely syllabic). Masses and motets were to become major liturgical forms to endure through the period with sacred music composers beginning to adopt secular traits.
As with the Medieval the harp, harpsichord, sacbut, hirtenschalmei, pipe and tabor, gemshorn, shawm, bagpipe, cornamuse, recorder, shofar, hurdy-gurdy, schalmei, dulcian and transverse flute fuelled the musical cannon during an era that gave birth to Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Renaissance Man; now White Beetle royalty free music presents our Renaissance royalty free music catalogue to accompany your artistic project.
