Silent Night at one minute and six seconds long is a short and simplified version of what is a very well known traditional Christmas Carol. Practically monophonic, only the melody is played on a Music Box for the specific purpose of offering the media producer/film maker an interesting choice of arrangement. The Carol "Silent Night" is Austrian in its origins and was first performed publicly in the Nicola-Kirche in Oberndorf, Austria on Christmas Eve, 1818. Father Josef Mohr composed the lyrics in 1816, and Austrian headmaster Franz Xaver Gruber wrote the melody and guitar accompaniment apparently the same day as the Carol's first performance.
