Emerging in Detroit in the mid to late 1980s Techno is an amalgamation of electronic music with jazz, funk and house music. Originally conceived for dance Techno, as the term suggests, leans heavily on electronic instrumentation. Fat bass lines, heavy drum beats (made easier with the introduction of the Roland TR-808) and great sequenced keyboards (more kudos to Roland with their TB-303) are amongst the elements found in this genre. Orbital, Dave Angel, Alexander Kowalski, Adam X, Adam Beyer, DJ Hell, DJ Rush and Darren Emerson are just a few names associated with Techno. Urban and industrial this form, long associated with the rave scene, would leave its native US in the 1990s at travel to Europe and part a significant part in the creation of new genres including ambient techno, jungle, hardcore and acid.
